For nearly five hundred years, the Armory Chamber has served as the chief repository for Russia's priceless historical and artistic treasures. It preserved the most valued possessions of the tsars and their family members and thus provides a palpable link to Russia's resplendent past.. The spectacular exhibition of fine, decorative, and applied arts of the 16th and 17th centuries from the collection of the Armory Chamber in the Kremlin Museum allows the Japanese visitors to get acquainted with culture of Ancient Russia.
The display brings together some of the Kremlin Museum's most remarkable royal treasures, testifying to the opulent lifestyle of Russia's tsars and tsarinas during the period prior to the founding of St. Petersburg in 1703. The exhibition is divided into four main themes: "The Tsar and His Family," "War and the Hunt," "Power and Faith," and "Royal Feasts and Diplomatic Gifts." Each theme reveals a unique facet of the life of Russia's royal family, as well as the central role played by the pomp and circumstance of official ceremonies in their lives.
